Over 50 years ago, Canadian entrepreneur Leonard Simpson opened a Toronto shoe store called Town Shoes. Town Shoes quickly expanded across Ontario and became a favourite shopping destination. After many years as a successful shoe retailer, Town Shoes saw a market for big box family shoe stores that offer quality and fashion at discount prices.
In 1992, Town Shoes opened a new subsidiary called The Shoe Company. The Shoe Company’s first store in Toronto’s Lawrence Plaza was an instant hit. Consumers loved the fashion, brands, and savings offered at the flagship store so much that The Shoe Company rapidly grew into a national chain. Today there are 60 stores across Canada – from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia.
The Shoe Company prides itself on being the number one family shoe store in Canada. Since 1992, the chain has broadened its range to include a men’s and women’s clothing line, handbags, and accessories. The Shoe Company created an online store in 2006 in order to provide customers with the opportunity to shop from home.
